Metallurgical Support

At CIREX, our metallurgical specialists have the right practical and theoretical knowledge for all types of steel. A good design depends entirely on the proper choice of material. If you would like to know more about the chemical composition, structure, hardness, tensile strength or perhaps heat resistance, then our metallurgical specialists can advise you professionally. They have considerable knowledge in the area of materials, heat and surface treatments, and constitute an experienced extension of your product development department.

Selecting the proper steel alloy is work for specialists. It is important to know the properties that the steel must possess. Consider, for example:

  • Mechanical properties     (hardness, tensile strength, elongation and elasticity)
  • Thermal properties       (heat resistance)
  • Chemical properties        (acid resistance and the ability to withstand corrosion)

On the basis of both these properties and the application of the component, the proper material choice will be made. Our metallurgical specialist provides a recommendation that meets your specific requirements. This means you are completely unburdened and always assured of the best material choice.

What is Metallurgy?

Metallurgy is the study of ores, metals and metal alloys, and studying the properties and applications of these in technology. Metallurgy is part of materials science. When metals, alloys and ores are studied the chemical and physical behaviours are evaluated. A metallurgical scientist studies the influence and composition of various steel alloys. These properties vary per alloy. The properties of the metals must be well understood before they are applied in a given component. If the selected steel alloy has insufficient strength, hardness and/or elasticity, then this can have consequences for the functioning of the final product. Metallurgical knowledge is essential for the production of precision castings in steel.

Low price level

CIREX keeps your TCO in mind throughout the entire course of the project, from the request for a quotation through to the delivery and subsequent logistical and inventory management. The same applies to the choice of material. We always try to choose the best solution. In addition to material price (price/kg for the steel alloy), we also look at the costs of any heat or surface treatments and the treatability. For example, it may sometimes be cheaper for you to choose a more expensive type of steel if this avoids the need for a particularly expensive heat treatment. At the end of the day, this results in a lower cost price level.
